High-Power Motor Purchase Requirements
The sale of 'G' motors and larger and all model and high power RMS reload kits to persons under 18 years of age is currently prohibited by federal law. Individuals must be 18 years of age to purchase high power hardware. Proof of age (such as a copy of a driver's license) must accompany all orders for 'G' and larger motors and all RMS reload kits. The consumer must be a current member in either the National Association of Rocketry or Tripoli Rocketry Association and be certified Level 1 (H,I), or Level 2 (J,K,L), or Level 3 (M,N,O) high power user, 18 years of age or older to purchase all high power reload kits.
Please note that orders requiring additional documentation cannot be shipped without a copy of a NAR or Tripoli Rocketry Association Level Certification card, or evidence (business license or purchase order on company or school letterhead) that you are a legitimate business or academic customer.

The new O5500X-PS DMS rocket motor replaces the O5280X-PS DMS rocket motor that has been placed on hold for more than a year due to casing integrity concerns. The O5500X-PS utilizes a new, thicker walled fiberglass casing and features updated assembly instructions, plus a new instructional video.
The O5500X-PS (P/N 15550P) motor uses AeroTech’s high-Isp Propellant X™ to produce an exceptionally high total impulse, accompanied by a bright white flame with a moderate amount of smoke. The motor delivers 21,384 N-sec (4,808 lb. sec) of total impulse in 4.03 seconds making it ideal for extreme high-altitude attempts (including two-stage flights to the edge of outer space!) and sport flights in heavy weight rockets. The O5500X-PS is a “plugged” motor that produces tracking smoke only, and cannot be configured with an integral ejection charge. Rockets using 75 and 98mm DMS motors must utilize an electronically-activated recovery system.
The AeroTech Disposable Motor System DMS is a single-use motor in kit form that is assembled by the user. All of the Aerotech DMS motors use all-disposable components. The nozzle is already installed. Propellant needs to be installed. You will need to set the desired delay time using the Universal Delay Drilling Tool (UDDT), Not Included, and then pour in the ejection charge. The Universal Delay Drilling Tool (UDDT) is required to adjust to a shorter time delay on all DMS rocket motors and is available in the AeroTech Accessories section of this website.
The O5500X-PS is a Plugged/Smoke motor. Plugged reload kits do not utilize a motor-actuated ejection charge. Plugged motors must be used in conjunction with a timer, altimeter or radio-activated recovery system.
This DMS motor features a filament-wound fiberglass casing, a glass-reinforced composite phenolic nozzle, a machined aluminum bulkhead with a built-in 3/8-16 thread for a matching eye bolt and RCSs exclusive Propellant X™ aerospace grade composite propellant formulation, which is a high ISP propellant, and produces a bright white flame with a moderate amount of smoke.
This AeroTech motor pack comes with 1 rocket motor and 1 FirstFire™ Initiator. Requires HAZMAT shipping via UPS or FEDEX. The sale of this high power motor to persons under 18 years of age is currently prohibited by federal law. This is a High-Power motor requiring Level 3 High-Power certification through NAR or Tripoli to purchase. Orders containing this item will not be shipped until proof of age (such as a copy of a driver’s license) and proof of Level 3 certification is received. Also, this motor requires U.S. State Department Licensing (SDL) for export (international shipments). Not available for sale in California.

Maximum Liftoff Weight: Due to the variables involved, AeroTech/Quest currently does not list or post recommended maximum lift-off weights for their mid-power and high-power rocket motors. Instead, we recommend utilizing either the RockSim software available at www.apogeerockets.com or OpenRocket Simulator available at www.openrocket.info.
